Unique Snacks in Davao City

Tired of the old cheeseburgers, fries and spaghetti? Yeah, you’re not alone. Good thing Davao is not just your ordinary, easy-to-please, snack city. Here are our best picks for unique snacks within the radius:

1. Crocodile Park’s Crocodile Sausage Sandwich - I’m sure you’ve seen many suspense movies where the crocodile attacks a secluded lake house and kills many people. But in crocodile park, you get to have your own sweet revenge. Just kidding, crocodiles. Indulge in an exotic snack experience by trying out the park’s Crocodile Sausage sandwich. You can pick from variants Australian cheese and Pepper sausage. Tastes just as good, with the texture a little starchier than chicken. It’s not everyday you get to change the plot of those gory movies. A sandwich only costs P95. What a treat!

2. Mamu’s Tetrazzini – Mother of carbonara, that’s what this yummy pasta is about. At face value, it really looks like carbonara. No surprise there, as the same ingredients are used except that this one’s creamier and the paste is only made of cream, bacon and mushrooms. No egg yolks and other extenders. From the moment it’s served, you’d feel in one with its mouth-watering aroma. After a helping, you won’t look at carbonara the same way again. Top it off with a glass of wine. A serving costs only a little below P300. Mamu’s is located at F.S. Dizon st. (formerly Bacaca road), Davao city.

3. Ranchero’s Merienda Cena – This roster of glamorized Filipino snacks will surely tickle your taste buds and raise the bar of your ordinary merienda sessions. Imagine belonging to one of those rich familias who have chefs  cook even their smallest meals. The must-try’s include Salad Trio, Molo Soup, Lumpiang Ubod and their native Tsokolate. Rachero’s is located at the Rooftop Garden, 3rd flr., Abreeza mall.

4. Pizzaccademia’s Pop Steak Sandwich – You’d finally believe how an upscale viand can taste as good in a sandwich when you taste Pizzaccademia’s Pop Steak Sandwich. It’s made of tender, thinly sliced sirloin beef, veiled with rich cheese filling and enclosed in a pillow-soft bun. Try out their delicious pizza line too! Our favorite is their Beer Lovers Pizza. Pizzaccademia is located at the back of USEP, Loyola st., Obrero, Davao city.

5. Zabadani’s Pita Shateerah – Even though its name sounds like a pop star, you’ll surely feel like one when you get to taste this unique Mediterranean dish. It’s made of ground spiced beef, cheese and fresh leafy greens enveloped in a sheet of lightly toasted Pita bread. Best to pair up with your regular softdrinks or one of Zabadani’s iced chocolate concoctions. Zabadani is located at The Peak, Gaisano Mall, Davao city.
So quit complaining you’ve got nothing new on the menu.

Try these unique snacks out and change the way you tackle a once-boring recess habit! More Davao-loving picks at my personal blog: www.bitchvarsity.com.

Events in Davao: Illumedia Hosts Affordable Wordpress Workshop

WordPress is rapidly gaining popularity as one of the most preferred website platforms by several companies. This is due to the fact that the back-end is very user-friendly for the developer, designer and the end user, whether it’s the client or the page visitor. Surprisingly, this platform is also cheaper as compared to other more complicated back-ends. There are thousands of websites today that harness WordPress as their platform and everybody’s pretty sure that number is still growing.

To serve this demand, Illumedia, one of Davao’s fastest growing web and graphic design outfits in Davao city, offers its first Basic WordPress Theme Creation Workshop this April. For the measly sum of P2500 (P2000 for students and fresh graduates) you can participate in a 4-day intensive design and development camp and you can even get to take home a workshop booklet and DVD, snacks, special prizes and other surprises. It’s going to be on April 21, 22, 28 and 29, from 9:00AM to 6:00PM, at Illumedia’s office (2nd floor La Core Bldg, Victoria Plaza Carpark). Technical pre-requisites are simple: basic HTML and basic Photoshop.

Illumedia’s Basic Wordpress Theme Creation Workshop aims to help aspiring web designers jumpstart their careers in Web Design and teach the important facets of Web Design and Development. It will also help encourage the participants to develop their creativity to build fully functional and eye-catching websites that appeal to a global audience. And Illumedia, being a well-accomplished team of young IT professionals, ensures that the entire workshop is going to be fun! For one, WordPress veteran Eliza Magno is the trainer for this event. She learned the basics of programming at the tender age of 13 (in the 90s!) and as of press time, she is regularly invited to speak for local and international talks about design, IT and outsourcing.

“Although the WordPress fame is not a secret to everyone in the industry, it’s still daunting how WordPress is not taught in schools. Most web and graphic designers who’ve mastered the WordPress platform learned on their own. Aside from the technical know-how, Team Illumedia also initiates building a support network for this workshop-goers and we plan to give continuous support to them. We’re giving away free domains and hosting as special prizes to a few people, so they can start building their online portfolios and get started on their careers. On top of everything, we hope to inspire them to work with passion.” That was a quote from Eliza Magno; and she glows with pride as she muses about her hopes for this workshop.

For those who are interested in joining this workshop, you may  visit www.illumediaworkshops.com , call Illumedia at 295 6711 or text 0943 469 9521 and look for Mary Anne. Only 20 slots are open. OR SIGN UP AT THIS FACEBOOK PAGE.
